Las Comadres

On Friday nite I went to a really great event. It was a monthly meeting of a group of Latina women who call themselves “Las Comadres”. It was an amazing group of women of all ages and from all different walks of life. There were artists and lawyers and accountants and publicists, every field you can think of was represented. The sole purpose of this group is to encourage and support fellow latina women in achieving their goals, whatever they may be. It is a sisterhood of women who nurture one another, who reject the “crabs in a bucket” mentality and work together to impact positivley our world.
My sister, Jessica Carmona, who is also an amazing actress, dancer, and playwright, was the one who invited me to join, and I am so glad that I did. After the event, we all went out for drinks and exchanged resources and experiences. I got so much helpful information on producing your own films, as well as connected with other latina artists in new york. The website for this group is : lascomradres.org.

This tuesday nite, I will be participating in a staged reading at the puerto rican travelling theatre, where I will be reading from my sister Jessica’s play about the Mexican immigrant Elvira Arellano. Other fantastic playwrights whose work will be read include: Patricia Jaramillo, and Mirandy Rodriguez.

Have a great weekend!!
