Over the weekend I went to the NYU alumni event that they hold every year. In addition to free food and giving away free stuff, they also have workshops and seminars that you can take. I took a great seminar on personal branding and marketing. I also went to a networking event in the Tisch Common room and spoke to a rep from Fractured Atlas about fiscal sponsorship.
The hilite of the day, however, was the free screening of the new movie “Money Ball”. Since it starred a Tisch alum (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), and the director and producer are both Tisch alum, we all got to see it for free and then stayed for a Q & A with Phillip afterwards. It was so cool! They talked a lot about the process of making this film, the obstacles they encountered, and what is was like to talk to Billy Bean. I’m not really a baseball fan, ( I really know nothing about the sport) but the story was still very compelling. It tells the story of Billy Bean, the manager for the California baseball team Oakland Atheltics, and how he transformed them from a losing team to a winning team. The film stars Brad Pitt as Billy Bean. Its a great film, check it out!
